Thank you for the Angel sis!

Today was quite the day... woke up bright and early and had fire academy all day... learned lots of good stuff. At 5pm it was time to race home, pick up the kids and go back to town for our annual fire department dinner at 6pm. We had a wonderful dinner, great friends, great conversation and great food! We left the restaurant at about 7:15pm and headed for milk and gas, then home.

Now we live out in the country... two lane roads... twisty turney... scary roads. No medians... nothing to buffer you if you run off of the road... no mistakes on these roads or you pay for it. My Mom's boyfriend Dave has already experienced these roads... ran off and hit a guidewire and wrecked the front of a truck... I hit a deer on my birthday... Chris hit a deer 2 days later... my sister flipped and totalled my Mom's car the day after Christmas... and then today my family had our first experiece with these horrible roads...

Everyone had a nice full belly... fat and happy... I commented to Chris about a house coming up that was for sale...

'I wonder how much they are selling this house for'

'Which one?'

'This one coming up on the left'... 'I mean the right... this one...'

'OMG Honey LOOK OUT!!!!!'

Then it happened... my life flashed in front of my eyes... we ran off of the road... and onto the road... we jerked back and forth... back and forth... on and off... Kya screaming in the back seat... Chris yelling in the front... I was on the breaks... trying to control the steering wheel and all I see is road going back and forth... pavement... fences... tree's... pavement... grass... all a huge blur... and all I am thinking is... you have to get control... your family's life is in your hands right now Melinda... get control of the car or your family is going to die... it seemed to go on forever, we went on and off the roads at least 4 or 5 times... then we stopped...

...

....

.....

........

...........

...............

Then I took a deep breath and reached in the back seat and grabbed Kya's leg...

'are you OK?'

'Yes Mom, I am OK... we are OK!'

'Jake... are you OK?'

'Ohhhkaaayyy... Ohhhkaaayyyy... Yeeaaahhhhh... Ohhhkkkaaayyy' Jake says...

I couldn't believe it... no damage... the car was still running, still facing the right direction... we were alive and safe.

So here is what I have to say to the person that almost ended my families life...

Dear Sir or Maam,
You don't know me, but I sure know who you are. You are the person that was drunk... or wasn't paying attention... or was on the phone... or was falling asleep... or lighting up a cig... you I will never forget. You and your careless actions almost caused me and my family our lives tonight. Do you know just how much they mean to me? My little boy Jake is only 2... 2! He loves cars and he loves sitting on the drivers side of the car so he can see them go by, but because of you I am going to move him to the passenger side of the car. He loves his milk, he loves Spongebob and his woobies... but you know what he loves more than anything? He loves his Mommy. And Kya... she is 10, she loves to read, she loves soccer and sports and spending time with her friends and going to church... but you know who has protected her for her entire life? Her Mommy. And Chris... my future husband... yes we have only been together for 3 years, but it feels as if it has been a lifetime already, he is my night in shining armor, my rock, my backbone... and you know who he kisses every night? Me. And do you know what would have happened if you would have hit my car? You would have taken Mommy... the lover, the protecter, the giver of sippies of milk at 2am, the finder of woobies, and the proud woman behind my family... she would be gone. Forever.

So thank you Rachel for letting me borrow your guardian angel tonight because of her I am still here tonight to tuck my babies into bed.

Melinda... a.k.a... Mommy

PS... if you didn't get what happened tonight, someone almost hit us head on. I was driving and Chris saw the car in our lane, I swirved and missed him/her, but ran off of the road... and on, and off, and on... you get it...
